The Annapurna region is situated to the north of Pokhara. It encompasses the Annapurna Range, which includes the first 8000m peaks to be climbed by humans. Annapurna, the deepest river garage in the world the Kali Gandaki cuts path between the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna peaks. Here also lies the Annapurna Sanctuary a maintain amphitheater encircled by Himalayan giants.

All these natural wonders have made the Annapurna region a mesmerizing trekking trail since 1985 a model combining environmental conservation and participatory economic development has produced a development success story the Annapurna conservation area project trekkers have dubbed the trail. The Annapurna region is Nepal's the most popular trekking destination with four of the world's highest mountains, and the world's deepest valley within it's boundaries. Gateway to the region is the lovely lakeside town of Pokhara, an idyllic place to relax after a long trek.
Day   Activity
  1   Katmandu Besishar:
    Bus via Mugling and Dumre to Besisahar. Stay overnight at teahouse.
  2   Besisahar Bahundanda:
    Cross the Marsyangdi River and ascend through forest and paddy fields and a long descent to the village of Bhulebhule (830m). Fairly level walking for 1½ hours, passing through the village of Nadi, across suspension bridge and then the long climb to village of Bahundanda (91310m). Total 6/7 hours.
  3   Bahaundanda  Jagat:
    Descend steeply and then continue along above Marasyangdi river and reach Syange (1190m) and cross river to west bank and ascend high above river to Jagat (1430m). Total 6 hrs.
  4   Jagat Tal:
    cross the river to the east bank and ascend to Tal (1675m). Short day and afternoon in Tal.
  5   Tal  Chame:
    Ascending alongside the river to Dharapani (1920m) in 2½ hours and continue in forest to Chame in a total of 7 hours.
  6   Chame  Pisang:
    Continue to Bratang (2480m). Continue on east bank of river, cross over and then ascend steeply for 30 minutes and then more level walking through the forest to lower Pisang village (3190m). 4 hours walking with one steep ascent and total ascent of 560m. Excursion to gompa (monastery) in upper Pisang village (3290m).
  7   Pisang  Manang:
    Cross the river and level walking past small lake and then steep ascent for 1 ½ hours to Ghyaru (3675m). Stupendous mountain views and gompa visit. Continue on spectacular contouring trail to Naural and then descend to Braga (3475m). Stay either in Braga or continue to Manang village (3500m). Total walking for day 8 hours.
  8   Manang:
    Acclimatization day in and around Manang. Various possible walks in region for views and to aid acclimatization including walk up nearby ridge for fantastic views. Approx 4 hours round trip. Exploration of village and visit to gompa
  9   Manang  Yak Kharka:
    Ascend from Manang to just above Yak near Leder (4090m). Short but scenic walk, good for acclimatization as making ascent of 600m. Optional walk up ridge in afternoon to look for blue sheep and for views.
  10   Yak Kharka  Thorong Phedi:
    Ascend in 4-5 hours to Thorong Phedi (4420m). Rest of acclimatization walk in afternoon.
  11   Thorong Phedi   Muktinath:
    Very early start to cross Thorong Pass (6416m). 3½ -5 hours for the 1000m ascent to the pass with several false summits along the way. There are good views of mountains from the pass. Down to the Kali Gandaki valley-4 hours descent to Muktinath village (3800m).
  12   Muktinath:
    Free day in Muktinath, either as rest day or as a spare day in the itinerary in case of bad weather before the pass. Visit the temple complex of Muktinath.
  13   Muktinath  Kagbeni:
    Descend to Kagbeni (2810m) in 2½ hours. Free afternoon in Kagbeni â??an interesting village, which is the most southernly part of mustang, which can be visited without a Mustang Permit.
  14   Kagbeni  Marpha:
    Descend valley to Jomsom (2713m) for lunch. Very windy after10 am. Further descent, passing airstrip on way to village of Marpha (2665m0. Total 5 hours walking, mostly gently downhill.
  15   Marpha  Kalopani:
    Continue gentle walking down Kali Gandaki valley good views of Dhaulagiri icefall and Nilgiri, to lunch in Larjung and then to Kalopani (2560m). About 6 hours walking.
  16   Kalopani  Tatopani:
    Further descent down valley to Dana for lunch and continue to Tatopani (1220m). Total walking 7 hours, mostly downhill. Optional visit to hot springs.
  17   Tatopani Beni:
    Continue downhill to Beni (820m). Lowland walking and can be hot. Approx 7 hrs walking.
  18   Beni  Pokhara:
    Continue descent alongside the river to Baglung or near Baglung. Bus to Pokhara (3 hrs).
  19   Free day in Pokhara
